Profile: Lifecore Biomedical, LLC develops and manufactures products composed of the biopolymer hyaluronan. We are an ISO 13485:2003 and CE certified company. Hyaluronan compounds are important lubricating, connective, and shock-absorbing components of both soft & bone tissues. Our hyaluronan biopolymers and mixtures are used in regenerative applications for a wide & ever-growing range of treatments from osteo-arthritits to opthalmic to cosmetic skin procedures. We are dedicated to the development of technically advanced products that offer long-term compatibility with the human body. Hyaluronan (also known as sodium hyaluronate or hyaluronic acid) is a polysaccharide composed of repeated disacchride units of glucuronate & n-acetyl glucosamine linked by β 1-3 and β 1-4 glycosidic bonds & counter ions. We manufacture hyaluronan using an extremely efficient microbial fermentation process and we purify hyaluronan before it's turned into finished products in our facilities. These are manufactured into several finished products for various medical applications. These products include Lurocoat® ophthalmic viscoelastic & Ortholure™ orthopedic viscosupplement. Lurocoat® ophthalmic viscoelastic is used in ophthalmic surgical procedures of the anterior segment including cataract extraction and intraocular lens implantation. Ortholure™ orthopedic viscosupplement is indicated for pain and restricted mobility due to degenerative & traumatic changes in synovial joints such as the knee. We manufacture medical grade hyaluronan in a variety of molecular weights. Its broad range of medical applications includes ophthalmology, orthopedics, veterinary medicine and drug delivery. It is a physiological substance that is widely distributed in the extracellular matrix of connective tissues in both animals and humans. It is found in high concentration in the aqueous humor of the eye, synovial fluid, skin, and umbilical cord.
