Profile: Institute of Microbial Technology provides integrated research, development & design base for microbial technology. We provide training in microbiology, microbial technology & biochemical engineering. We develop monoclonal antibodies to identify disease-specific antigenic & molecular targets for malaria, leishmaniasis & tuberculosis & to selectively eliminate infected cells. Our recombinant oral vaccine for cholera is a novel strategy in which an avirulent strain was converted into a vaccine candidate capable of elaborating only the immunogenic B subunit of the cholera toxin using recombinant DNA technology. This candidate vaccine which has been found to give full protection in animal studies & completely safe has also been found to be completely free from toxins.
