Profile: Brightwell Technologies Inc. specializes in Micro-Flow Imaging™. Micro-Flow Imaging (MFI) is a particle characterization technology which delivers new and valuable insights for a broad range of pharmaceutical, bioprocessing, biotechnology, cell biology, material sciences & environmental applications. Micro-Flow Imaging™ (MFI) integrates digital microscopy, micro-fluidics and image processing into a single instrument for automatic analysis of particles or cells suspended in liquids. MFI operates by capturing images from the sample as it passes through the flow cell's sensing zone. Every particle in each image is analyzed to create a database of particle count, size, transparency and morphology (or shape). For immediate visual verification, images are displayed on the system monitor in real-time. MFI can also produce trend charts to monitor dynamic processes. MFI adds new capabilities to the suite of existing measurement technologies, and is finding an expanding role in analyzing particle populations found throughout bio- and health sciences. Applications are in product development, production, research or clinical applications. Target populations may be aggregates, mammalian cells, yeasts, fragments, contaminants or combinations of these. Key attributes of MFI include large count statistics & automation of manual methods, accurate measurement of low particle concentration solutions, automatic report generation & results archiving, robustness, ease of use & direct visual insight, native state sampling with little or no preparation, sensitivity & repeatability, and flexibility for test method development with automatic repetition. The precision stir controller provides 10 discrete RPM settings which are digitally controlled to ensure accurate and consistent RPM for all fluid types & levels. It is used to keep particles evenly dispersed in 10 ml syringe barrels during sampling; specifically when large or dense particles are prone to settling.
